Made possible by grant and loan investment from Communitybuilders, a Government funded agency, we are now well on our way to seeing the transformation of Exeter Community Centre into a new hub of activity, with doctors' surgery, children's nursery, community meeting spaces, offices, training and 'hot desks' for local agencies and groups.
Devon County Council has transferred the building, free of charge, from their ownership to that of the community trust formed by the St David's Neighbourhood Partnership - our community-based association of residents, community groups, businesses and local Councillors. Included with the Council's transfer is £200,000 towards the costs of refurbishment. Our community group has raised the remaining £1.4 million in partnership with the Social Investment Bank (Communitybuilders) programme in order to turn the new community hub into a reality. In 2010, Devon County Council leaders gave our community one final chance to raise funding. In 2003 the community put the centre at the heart of its 'Vision for St David's" when it learned that the building would be closed and sold to developers.
